All products featured on Allure are independently selected by our editors. However, we may receive compensation from retailers and/or from purchases of products through these links.

By now, you know that the Allure Best of Beauty Awards bestow that instantly recognizable seal on the products that editors, makeup artists, hairstylists, and dermatologists agree are the cream (and serum) of the crop. Spotting that red circle while shopping feels like getting an instant and highly enthusiastic recommendation from your most beauty-savvy, ingredient-literate friend.

We've been bestowing Best of Beauty Awards for nearly three decades now, so repeat winners are inevitable, not because there's a lack of competition in certain categories—trust us, there are plenty of amazing new launches that give more familiar products a run for their money. It's just that some winners somehow manage to remain untouchable. And that's why we've decided to salute them with a Hall of Fame—a designation given only to products that have won three or more Best of Beauty Awards.

Does it mean that you shouldn't even bother trying other products? Of course not—something else may work really well for you. But does it mean you must try them at least once if you haven't already because hello, they are clearly awesome? Yes, yes, a thousand times, yes.

Okay, so none of these products have won Best of Beauty Awards a thousand times, but that's only because we didn't get started until 1996. The fact that some of these tools and formulas have won three, four, even double-digit times is still incredibly impressive— even more so when you consider how many have won Readers' Choice Awards, too.

The products below are only some of the Best of Beauty Award Hall of Famers—yes, there are even more habitual winners—so check them out and then find out for yourself why they keep conquering their categories.

Winning each year since its launch in 2022, this magical little mound of radiance never looks cakey or costume-y. “It’s so light and fine that it feels like you're applying air,” says senior art director Ingrid Fowler. “You only need a little bit to get a glimmery, shimmery—but not too shimmery—payoff.”

Ask 10 people to describe a Lush Bath Bomb, and you’ll get 10 different answers. That’s because, even though it’s the quintessential bath bomb that so many of us picture when we think of bath bombs, it comes in seemingly countless shapes, colors, and scents. Watching it become one with your bath water and then immersing yourself will never not be whimsical. Bonus: “They never fail to leave soothed, soft skin in their wake,” says senior news editor Nicola Dall’Asen.

    Nicola Dall’Asen

You know a product is iconic when, every few years, Allure editors are like, “There really is nothing quite like this in the category.” Such is the case with Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil, which has undeniably served as the inspiration for countless eyeliners that have come after it. Now, accepting its third Best of Beauty Award—following wins in 2009 and 2015—it has several staffers contending that it’s the G.O.A.T. because of its incredible opacity, durability, and shade range, which includes both everyday and experimental colors, like the matte dark brown Demolition and the sparkling hot pink Woodstock, respectively.

Senior editor Jesa Marie Calaor brushes the Nars Powder Blush onto her cheekbones.

Don't call it a comeback! OK, call it a comeback. Nars Powder Blush has racked up numerous Best of Beauty Awards since the turn of the century, but its winning streak slowed in recent years as the blush competition thickened. We're not saying that's what prompted the brand to reformulate what is arguably its most famous product (even your grandma knows about Orgasm), but we were so impressed with 2024’s talc-free, even more blendable, and conveniently refillable reimagining of Nars Blush that we couldn't deny it its eighth red seal. "The new formula feels ever-so-slightly more velvety and deposits even more color with each swipe," says senior editor Jesa Marie Calaor.

Your favorite nail polish color may change from week to week, but when it comes to that last clear layer, it's hard to stray from a formula as fantastic as the CND Vinylux Long Wear Shine Top Coat. It helps any color from any brand (it doesn't discriminate) look shinier and last longer, acting as a force field against annoying chips. In other words, your favorite color may need to stay your favorite color for longer than a week because it’s going to stick around beyond seven days with this level of protection on top.

Size matters, especially when it comes to your go-to sculpting product. "I put contour and bronzer on every single day. It's a product you just use more, and in more places, so I didn't want it to run out quickly," makeup artist Patrick Ta previously told Allure of his Major Sculpt Crème Contour & Powder Bronzer Duo. As its name suggests, this winner actually gets you two products—and plenty of 'em—and their textures are so incredibly blendable that it feels like the makeup artist's mastery was one of the ingredients. And it’s no wonder that it applies perfectly with Patrick Ta’s new addition to the Hall of Fame, Major Sculpt Dual-Ended Sculpting Brush.

Is it a flatiron? Sure, technically. But what's earned the ghd Platinum+ Styler the "styler" designation—and four Best of Beauty Awards—is its so-much-more-than-a-flatiron flair. In addition to easy-peasy straightening, it allows you to create waves and curls with its rounded barrel and no-snag plates, which never deviate from 365 degrees—the perfect temperature for styling without singeing. No matter how high-maintenance your bangs may be, this tool makes sleek child’s play of them.

    eSalon

    Custom Hair Color Set

    $33

    eSalon

Some say the eSalon Custom Hair Color Set is the next best thing to going to the salon, but we have the audacity to say it may be—wait for it—just as good. That's because eSalon puts just as much care and expertise into crafting the single-process shade you want—based on your hair's texture, history, and more—as a live-and-in-person colorist The kit comes with more components than the average at-home hair dye (like a professional-style applicator brush and a stain guard gel for applying around your hairline), but it's not the least bit intimidating to use. (In fact, it's arguably easier—just one of the reasons it keeps getting Best of Beauty Awards.) "The finished result was so flattering and natural, it was like the shade was made for me—because it was," says contributor Liana Schaffner.

There have been many—oh, so many—imitators, but nothing will ever replace the original Beautyblender. Shaped like a pointy egg, the makeup-kit staple is now a 14-time Best of Beauty Award winner. "I wanted a tool that gave you an airbrushed look without having to actually use an airbrush machine," founder Rea Ann Silva previously told Allure, and that's achieved by how foundation sits atop the Beautyblender once it's wet, not to mention the way its suede-like texture and edge-free shape blends it out gorgeously and into every tiny angle and contour of the face.

Maybelline New York Great Lash Mascara has been winning Allure awards—both Best of Beauty and Readers' Choice—since before some of our current staff members were born. The pink and green packaging may be instantly recognizable, but it's what's inside the tube that makes it the most iconic everyday mascara on the market. We've seen it reimagined as a waterproof formula and in different colors, but we'll always keep coming back to the original for its simple yet effective lengthening and separating results.

    Tangle Teezer

    The Original

The original Tangle Teezer completely changed not only the way we treat our hair when it's wet, but the way we view hairbrushes. Turns out that a giant, plastic jelly bean is exactly what so many of us needed to get through our knotty hair—straight, curly, or in-between—without any discomfort. "It fits perfectly into your palm, which allows for less of the tugging that makes hair snap," hairstylist Tommy Buckett has told Allure of the four-time Best of Beauty winner. And while it may not look (or for that matter, be) as expensive as some other pro-loved hairbrushes on the market, you have to admit, the huge array of colors it comes in (and the adorable fact that the brand now makes Tangle Teezers for our furry friends) just adds to how delightful it is to use.

The Kevyn Aucoin classic may not be one of the color-cosmetics products the brand is so celebrated for, but the fact that this tool has been around (and winning awards) for so long shows just how iconic it is. We especially appreciate how its bright red pad makes it almost impossible to pinch yourself when you go in for the curl.

Nearly every self-tanner on Earth does its darkening with dihydroxyacetone (DHA), the sugar that reacts with amino acids on your skin to prompt a faux golden glow. But somehow, St. Tropez has managed to make the customizable results of its Self Tan Express Bronzing Mousse the most convincingly un-faux—to the point that your staunchly pro-sunscreen friends might scold you for lying out in the sun. A three-time Best of Beauty winner, this advanced formula even wows scientists with its ability to provide a customized level of color depending on how long you leave it on. "What's really impressive about this technology is that they've been able to show that every time you wash it off after an hour, you'll get a light, even tan, and so on for the rest of the shades," cosmetic chemist Jim Hammer previously told Allure. "From a chemistry perspective, this sort of consistency is a real achievement. And for people at home, being able to pick three shades from one bottle? That's a first."

If the bronze bottle of Jergens Natural Glow Daily Moisturizer looks a bit trophy-esque, perhaps that's because it's surrounded by multiple Best of Beauty and Readers' Choice Awards. The long-time go-to self-tanner for people who are nervous to use self-tanner, the formula promises the kind of gradual build-up of color that doesn't feel as overwhelming as the prospect of a full-blown tan in a matter of minutes. "And just like the color is more subtle than that of the self-tanners you may be used to, so is the scent," says contributing editor Marci Robin. "Sure, brands have come a long way in masking that telltale DHA smell, but Jergens mastered that long before the rest, and it's only gotten more pleasant to use and smell in recent years."

For so many people, Neutrogena Body Clear Body Acne Wash Pink Grapefruit was the first product that we ever used to address backne and other body breakouts; and for so many people, it's still what we turn to when things get bumpy below the neck. Its salicylic acid makes it a no-brainer, especially in the summer or after workouts, and its grapefruit scent has always been the ideal amount of citrusy-but-not-too-sweet. No wonder it's won a nice handful of Best of Beauty Awards.

You think it's humiliating to be terrible at painting your own nails? Try being a klutz at removing that nail polish—knocking over the bottle, getting remnants of cotton stuck to your nails, etc. The worst. And that's why we've been so thankful—to the tune of four Best of Beauty Awards—for the Olive & June Polish Remover Pot. The sponge inside is saturated in a gentle non-acetone formula, so after a couple twists of the fingertip, your nail is totally clean, free of both polish and fuzz. And you're ready to give painting your nails another good-faith try.

While other brow conditioners and serums promise miracles, RevitaBrow Advanced Eyebrow Conditioner has long delivered on exactly what we're hoping to see: healthier-looking, less brittle, and, yes, seemingly fuller eyebrows. "I graduated from high school in 1994. I think you can imagine what my poor brows endured during that dark, dark decade for the human eyebrow. By the time I arrived at Allure in my 20s, they were still shadows of their former selves," says executive beauty director Jenny Bailly. "A strict hands-off policy certainly helped with regrowth, but I saw the most improvement after I started using RevitaBrow pretty much as soon as it came out. I've tried other brow conditioners over the years, but always come back to this one and use it consistently every day (which I can't say for many other beauty products)."

"It's a pressed powder—in eight shades, from platinum to black—that comes with a small brush so I can pinpoint my grays and avoid my fancy salon highlights better than I can with a spray or loose powder," says Bailly, who adds that its finish is like real hair, so it never turns dull or stiff the way some sprays and hair mascaras do.

We're devastated every time a few of Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Microfinish Loose Powder’s super airy particles land anywhere other than our faces because that's a tiny bit of blurring, light-diffusing magic that our skin is missing out on. This loose powder visibly minimizes pores and lines while somehow remaining invisible itself. It has won several Best of Beauty Awards since its first in 2008, and we're just grateful that Make Up For Ever has never messed with this magic.

The best clay masks aren’t the moisture-sapping formulas of the past—in recent years, they’ve evolved into skin barrier-friendly staples. Part of that has to do with the actual clay. “Clay masks can benefit most skin types, but the type of clay matters,” says Sonia Badreshia-Bansal, MD, a board-certified dermatologist based in Danville, CA. In other words, matching your mask to your skin’s needs can make the difference between a glowing complexion and an irritated one. “Kaolin clay is the most gentle and works well for sensitive or dry skin because it absorbs oil without being overly stripping,” Dr. Badreshia-Bansal says. “Bentonite clay is stronger and usually best for oily or acne-prone skin since it can draw out excess sebum and impurities more deeply.” Some masks combine kaolin and bentonite to offer the best of both worlds—deep cleansing power and a comfortable, non-stripping feel.

On top of the type of clay, today’s formulas are far less likely to leave your skin parched. Many are now enriched with hyaluronic acid, glycerin, and botanical extracts, such as aloe, which help keep skin hydrated and balanced while clearing pores and absorbing excess oil. (Heads up: Even so, Dr. Badreshia-Bansal recommends using a clay mask once or twice a week for optimal results since excessive use can lead to dryness or irritation.) Read on for our dermatologist-approved picks for the best clay masks that leave your complexion feeling soft, comfortable, and glowing.

The rich, creamy formula hydrates skin deeply, soothes redness, and helps strengthen the skin's barrier, leaving everything feeling balanced. Hyaluronic acid plumps, colloidal oatmeal soothes, and tea extracts provide skin with antioxidants. Smooth it on with the handy included brush after cleansing, kick back for 10 to 15 minutes, and rinse off.

Its thick, stark-white consistency might make me look like the ghost of a Victorian child for the 15 minutes I wear it, but it's worth it for the supple, soothed, renewed skin it leaves behind.” —Nicola Dall’Asen, senior news editor

Why it's worth it: SkinCeuticals Clarifying Clay Masque is a weekly reset for congested, breakout-prone skin. “This is one of the most elegant medical-grade clay masks, featuring kaolin and bentonite clays to draw out impurities along with alpha-hydroxy acids to gently exfoliate dead skin cells,” says Dr. Badreshia-Bansal. She notes that this balanced formula goes beyond basic pore-clearing to deliver a polished, refined finish. “On top of it being great for patients dealing with clogged pores, uneven texture, or mild breakouts, it doesn’t overdry the skin, especially when used once a week as part of an exfoliating routine,” she says. Soothing botanicals, such as aloe vera and chamomile, keep the skin comfortable as the mask refines pores and absorbs excess oil. Soothing botanicals, such as “aloe vera and chamomile, keep the skin comfortable while reducing redness that often is associated with acne,” adds Adriana Lombardi, a board-certified dermatologist based in Edison, NJ.

“What a treat this mask is. I use sunscreen, makeup, and plenty of moisturizer throughout the day, and this is what I turn to to slough it all off. Given that I have sensitive skin and eczema, I typically steer clear of clay masks, but this formula never dries me out. It glides on (and smells heavenly while it's at it—hello, rosemary and chamomile!), and is so easy to remove. There's no need for tugging or over-cleansing. As I have two kids and virtually no time to myself, even in the bathroom, I appreciate that it takes as little as three minutes to see the benefits. Whenever I use this, I am immediately (yes, immediately!) glowing afterwards. Like, post-facial-level glow—one worthy of a Twilight vampire—and without a hint of an over-stripped skin barrier. The chamomile is soothing, the clay draws gunk out of my pores, and the glycerin nourishes my skin. If I could use this every day, I would.” —Shanna Shipin, shopping director

Why it's worth it: As if its striking emerald-green hue didn’t already give it away, La Mer’s Deep Purifying Mask pairs the brand’s legendary algae extract (Miracle Broth) with serious detox power. “It’s a nice, creamy, cooling, luxurious mask that applies easily with a smooth glide,” says Cheryl Karcher, MD, a board-certified dermatologist based in New York City. The formula features bentonite and kaolin clays for deep cleansing and oil absorption, while glycolic, salicylic, and lactic acids gently exfoliate to refine skin texture. This combination “deeply purifies and detoxifies while still hydrating and soothing the skin,” says Michelle Henry, MD, a board-certified dermatologist based in New York City. Frequently Asked Questions

What type of clay mask is best for acne?

Bentonite- and kaolin-based purifying clay masks are excellent for acne-prone skin. Both are highly absorptive, drawing out excess oil that clogs pores and contributes to breakouts. “These clays deeply purify while remaining gentle, so you get effective oil control without over-drying,” says Dr. Henry. Since blemishes are closely tied to overactive oil glands, using a mask with these clays helps reduce one of the main triggers of acne. Balanced formulas—especially those paired with hydrating or soothing ingredients—are best, as they “detoxify while still hydrating and soothing the skin,” preventing irritation that can worsen breakouts, says Dr. Henry.

Will a clay mask dry out my skin?

“The best clay masks today balance oil control with hydration from ingredients like glycerin and aloe, so they detoxify without leaving your skin parched,” says Dr. Bansal. To further sidestep the dreaded tight, overly matte feeling, “it’s smart to look for formulas enriched with calming, hydrating additions—like chamomile, rosehip, or botanical oils—that soften the traditional clay ‘dry down’ effect, says Dr. Henry.

How we test and review products

When Allure tests a product, our editors look at it from every angle in an effort to best serve you. We review ingredients, scrutinize brand claims, and, when necessary, examine peer-reviewed scientific and medical studies. In addition to testing each and every product that's included in each and every review, we rely on experts who shape their fields, including dermatology, cosmetic chemistry, and medicine, to help us vet the ingredients and formulas.

For our list of the best clay masks, we considered each product's performance across five primary categories: product ingredients and efficacy, packaging, fragrance, texture, and product wear. Every product was determined to have excelled in each category by our editorial team, which is composed of in-house writers and editors as well as contributors—along with special consideration from dermatologists. To learn more information on our reporting and testing processes, read our complete reviews process and methodology page.

    Our staff and testers

A beauty product is a personal purchase. You might be searching for a face cream to address persistent dryness or a new nail product to add to your Sunday self-care routine; you may simply be browsing around for the latest launches to hit the hair market. No matter what you seek or your individual needs and concerns, Allure wants to ensure that you love anything we recommend in our stories. We believe that having a diverse team of writers and editors—in addition to the wide range of outside testers and industry experts we regularly call upon—is essential to reaching that goal.

After all, can we really say a skin-care product is the "best" for people over 50 if the only testers we've solicited opinions from folks who have yet to hit 30? Can we honestly deem a high-end diffuser worthy of your hard-earned cash if it's never been tested on curls? We're proud that our staff spans a wide range of ages, skin tones, hair textures, genders, and backgrounds, which means that we are able to fairly assess any beauty product that comes into the beauty closet.

A good face primer is essential for keeping your makeup from melting off by midday, especially in the summer. But when it comes to the best primers for oily skin, the search gets trickier. You need a formula that not only locks everything in place but also mattifies, minimizes pores, and won’t clog or irritate acne-prone skin. Also important in your search: oil-fighting ingredients. (Try cellulose and niacinamide, a form of vitamin B3 that helps balance skin tone and control excess oil.)

To find the best primers for oily skin, Allure tapped makeup artists for their go-tos and tested over 15 formulas that claim to mattify, smooth, and control oil. During testing, we looked at how long they kept makeup on, how well they blurred pores, and whether they truly helped curb shine. Ahead, the expert-backed, editor-approved primers that actually hold up all day.

Why it’s worth it: Of all the formulas we tried, the Nars Soft Matte Primer came out on top because it combines everything we’re looking for in a primer for oily skin. First off, the gel-like texture is super lightweight, something we can't say for all the mattifying primers we tested. It glides on easily, instantly knocks out shine, and smooths over pores, uneven texture, and fine lines without feeling like a film on your skin. And it doesn’t make your face look flat or chalky—as with the brand’s setting powder, it gets rid of excess oil but still leaves skin with a natural finish that reflects just the right amount of light.

During testing, we were especially impressed by how well it held up throughout the day. Like a setting spray, it kept our makeup in place from morning to night—even through sweat and oil buildup—and gave us a clean, smooth base for foundation. Plus, it somehow manages to keep skin feeling hydrated and plump (rare for a mattifying formula!).

I recently wore it when the temperature reached the upper 90s and, on top of it, I had to wear a mask due to a cough. Why it’s worth it: If redness, large pores, oiliness, and breakouts sound like your daily lineup, makeup artist Christian Briceno has one solution: the 2025 Best of Beauty–winning Smashbox Photo Finish Mattifying Primer. “It has a super lightweight feel, and its matte finish blurs pores instantly,” he says, noting that he often wears it solo for a no-makeup look. When layering foundation on top, Briceno suggests sticking with silicone-based formulas for the smoothest finish.

Beyond its blurring superpowers (hi, silicones), the primer is infused with vitamins A and E to nourish skin and extend your makeup’s wear. Bonus: It doubles as a shield against environmental stressors, so you’re also protecting your precious skin while serving a flawless base.

The balm-to-powder formula means it won’t sit on your face and leave a greasy residue. Instead, it melts in and actively mattifies, thanks to ingredients like silicone for blurring, vegan squalane to balance oil, and upsalite to absorb excess sweat throughout the day. There’s also a dose of hyaluronic acid for hydration, because oily skin still needs moisture to keep the barrier healthy.

“I get super oily and sweaty in the summer (don't we all?), so I need an oil-free primer that keeps my makeup in-tact in the humid New York heat. Danessa Myricks Blurring Balm does just that, and more. What I love the most about this bb is its cream-to-powder finish and lightweight feel. Plus, a little goes a long way. So, while this balm isn't the cheapest on the market, it'll last you a long time (like months), even if you're wearing it daily.” —Melanie Curry, associate manager of audience development

Why it’s worth it: The most powerful of all the primers on this list, the One/Size Oil Sucker Extreme Mattifying Primer is beloved by makeup artists Briceno and Dani Parkes, who says it’s one of the only primers she’s found actually keeps the skin matte all through the day. “This primer truly grips makeup while controlling oils,” she notes.

Another welcome plus? It also blurs the pores so effectively that it creates a smooth base to apply your foundation or concealer, Briceno says. But don’t get it twisted—it’s not going to sap your skin of all moisture. This formula is also loaded with hyaluronic acid, which visibly plumps and boosts moisture without the shine. One thing to note? “Avoid using oil-based products on top of it, as they tend to separate from the skin and look flaky,” says Briceno.

That’s exactly what you get with Milk Makeup’s Pore Eclipse Primer. (Its sister product, the Pore Eclipse Matte Setting Spray, won a 2024 Allure Best of Beauty Award.) This lightweight, water-cream primer blurs pores and controls shine on contact, but it also packs some of the most skin care-forward ingredients of any primer on this list. Think: niacinamide to visibly minimize pores, bakuchiol to smooth texture, and lentil extract for oil control.

If you’re after long-lasting oil control, Benefit’s The Porefessional Matte Pore Minimizing Primer is an Allure favorite. The original Porefessional Pore Primer is a classic (we were using it back in our high school days), but this newer version takes that pore-blurring power and cranks up the mattifying effect. The texture is different, too: It’s silky and a bit milky, rather than having a silicone-y slip, which makes it easy to smooth over your whole face without pilling. It leaves behind a velvety, soft-focus finish that keeps shine in check all day. Bonus: The formula is packed with skin-loving ingredients like niacinamide (spotting a theme?), oil-absorbing rose hip extract, and mineral powders to help blur large pores over time. So, the more you use it, the better your skin will look.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Which primer type is best for oily skin?

According to Briceno, silicone-based primers are the way to go if you have oily skin. “They contain silicate, which helps absorb the oils in the skin, creating a smooth, grippy texture for makeup,” he says. Another bonus of silicate? It provides that velvety-looking finish that improves the appearance or pores and helps control areas of the face with excessive oil production, Briceno says. One caveat: If you have acne-prone skin, be aware that silicones can trap bacteria, so make sure to cleanse your skin thoroughly when removing it.

If you don’t see a silicone callout on the package, you’ll know that a primer is good for oily skin if the bottle has words like “mattifying” and “pore blurring,” says Parkes.

What should you keep in mind when shopping for a primer for oily skin?

“Make sure your primer pairs well with your skin-care products,” says Briceno, who prefers water-based moisturizers since they layer best with silicone primers. “They’re lightweight and absorb more easily into the skin,” he explains. If you’re using a thicker moisturizer, give it a few minutes to fully sink in before applying your primer to avoid pilling. Briceno also advises steering clear of alcohol-based products, which can overdry the skin and trigger even more oil production. Instead, he recommends gel-based formulas, which are more durable and help keep oil in check.

What ingredients should you look for in a primer for oily skin?

When shopping for a primer for oily skin, it’s important to keep ingredients in mind. Briceno recommends looking for niacinamide, which helps regulate oil and refine pores, along with oil-absorbing ingredients like silica and kaolin clay to mattify and smooth skin texture.

Silicones such as dimethicone and cyclopentasiloxane are great for blurring imperfections and minimizing the look of pores. For those prone to breakouts or congestion, charcoal and salicylic acid can help keep skin clear while controlling excess oil.

Are primers better for oily skin than dry skin?

Both skin types can benefit from primers, but there are clear differences between primers made for oily skin and options made for drier skin types. “Primers for oily skin control shine and prolong wear usually by providing the skin with a grip barrier, so the makeup stays looking fresh for an extended time,” says Briceno. On the other hand, primers for dry skin focus on hydration and provide skin with luminosity. Parkes says a hydrating moisturizer or face oil will do the job for dry skin, too. Where these two types of primers align is with their purpose: They both make your makeup look its best without the need for multiple touch-ups.

How we test and review products

Before reviewing any makeup, we ask questions about a number of factors: What ingredients are in it? Does the brand offer a wide shade range inclusive of consumers with all skin tones and undertones? Is it safe for readers who have sensitive skin or wear contact lenses? Is it on the affordable side or more of a splurge? Is its packaging consciously designed or needlessly wasteful?

For our review of the best primers for oily skin, we enlisted the help of multiple editors, writers, contributors, and makeup artists to review the products. This ensures our testing base spans different skin tones, genders, and dermatological conditions. We considered each product's performance across four primary categories: ingredients, wear and longevity, packaging, and inclusivity. For more on what's involved in our reporting, check out our complete reviews process and methodology page.

Of all the runway shows during Paris Fashion Week, no front row is as buzzy and celeb-heavy as Dior's. The legendary French fashion house brings out the A-list, and in turn, celebrities bring their beauty A-games—like Willow Smith, who stunned me with a gorgeous combo of a braided updo and baby-blue eye shadow.

Smith, who is a global ambassador for Dior Beauty, sat front row at the spring/summer 2026 womenswear show—alongside fellow ambassadors Anya Taylor-Joy and Blackpink's Jisoo—wearing head-to-toe Dior and a high, multi-layered updo that began with braids and ended in a perky pile of waves.

The musician's updo has three distinct levels, starting with two elevated, braided sections that begin right near her hairline. The smaller section was rolled at an angle, and the larger portion looks like it was rolled around a hairpiece or a hair donut for added lift, volume, and shape. The lengths were gathered into a knot at the base of the second braided section, descending in long, easy waves.

Willow Smith poses at the Dior show wearing her hair in a braided updo with wavy lengths and light blue eye shadow.Getty Images

The sculpted style is gorgeous from a straight-on view, but you've gotta see the side view to really appreciate every detail. It's a little beehive-y, a little bouffant-y, and in true Smith fashion, totally cool.

Willow Smith appears at the Dior show wearing a navy jacket and a braided updo.Getty Images

Smith paired her updo with the prettiest frosty blue pastel eye shadow, which she wore dusted all over the lid, up to the brow, and in her inner corners, plus a poppy pink blush. Given her sponsorship, my best guess is that she's wearing a soft wash of Diorshow Mono Couleur shadow in Denim.

This season's Dior show was even more important than usual, as it marks the official beginning of Jonathan Anderson's work as creative director. Smith joined the Dior family in 2024 and has appeared in several Dior Beauty campaigns since then, including one with Taylor-Joy for the Forever Glow Star Filter. At the time, the brand described her as “one of the most visionary and daring young women of her generation,” and we've gotta agree.

If it's October 1, we know Megan Thee Stallion is doing two things: wearing a pumpkin on her head and serving up Halloween nail art inspo. No, seriously. She has truly committed to this bit. Just check out her jack-o-lantern and manicure combo from last year and the year before. And this year, she's back again with not only a creepy-yet-cute Halloween manicure but a new pumpkin piercing, too.

You read that right: Megan Thee Stallion posted a carousel of photos to her Instagram grid showing her at a piercing studio, getting what is essentially an eyebrow piercing, even though noggin gourd has no discernible eyebrows. And yet, the dangling crossing looks totally fierce, especially with all of the other gems she's wearing with her casual, cropped white tee, jeans, and slouchy boots.

Thankfully, a couple of the photos give us a clear shot of this year's highly anticipated October 1 manicure, and it's actually a bit more subdued than in years past. (She has yet to reveal which of her nail artists is behind the design.) They're short and squared off, with a few different themes. Some nails are painted black with red dots; others have a traditional French manicure combo of a sheer pink base with white tips, plus a red dot.

However, most adorable—or horrifying, depending on your personal phobias—nails in this manicure are the ones with clown faces on them. There's nothing inherently frightening about them: a white base with a simple smile, star-shaped eyes, and a classic clown nose. But that won't ease the fears of anyone who categorizes clowns as monsters.

    Instagram content

For those of us who are comfortable with clowns and ready to start celebrating the spooky spirit of this month, we're definitely adding this to our list of Halloween nail art ideas to bring to the salon.

Think: longer wear time (up to 16 hours, according to the brand) and a cream-to-powder texture that’s not too thick or sticky. Along with the brand’s iconic Orgasm shade, The Multiple comes in 11 other colors that range from peach to berry tones—ideal for mixing, matching, and layering together. Hydrating peach kernel oil helps this blush go on smoothly, but it dries down to a blurred finish that doesn’t budge (even after hours of wear, according to one Allure editor). It blends out in seconds (I like to apply it with a brush, but fingers work too) and has a soft finish that's really lovely. It doesn't look streaky or patchy, and the end result is a light flush of color that you can build up to your desired look. Plus, it lasts all day long—I don't even need to set it with a powder blush on top. The yummy vibes are only outdone by the sheer, long-lasting flush this stick delivers, along with an instantly cooling feel. “The cooling is from the release of water upon pressing,” says cosmetic chemist Ginger King. “Also, the inclusion of aloe vera with humectants like glycerin, sorbitol, and polysaccharides with polymers can enhance that effect.” Makeup artist Sara Wren suggests using a brush with this one “[because it] allows you to build up the watercolor-like pigment and gives a more precise application.” Since it's technically a stain and sets quickly, we recommend working quickly.

“This chubby blush stick is perfect for anyone who loves a glowy flush and doesn't have the time to put on multiple products. (*Raises hand*.) I've put it on in front of my vanity, but also on the back of a moving subway car in a pinch. I just tap it lightly along my cheekbones up to my temple and blend it out with my fingers. It's so blendable for a natural-looking, sultry wash of color.” —Jesa Marie Calaor, senior editor

Why we love it: You don’t have to shell out for a great blush stick—ColourPop’s Hydrating Blush Stix costs around $10, but punches way above its price. Similar to some of our other favorites on this list, it’s long-lasting (read: won’t fade into your skin in minutes) and layers well on top of other products for last-minute touch-ups. The resulting wash of color is sheer but can be built up, and blends out quickly and easily. Pick up a few of the eight available shades and still come in under budget.

The color payoff is amazing, the formula is super blendable (you don't even need a brush—just tap with your fingers, and you're good to go), and the price is unbeatable. Why we love it: Ilia’s Multi-Stick has plenty of fans, Allure editors among them. Winner of past Best of Beauty Award and Reader’s Choice Awards, it stands out from the crowd with its breathable, lightweight finish and moisturizing ingredients that play nicely with dry skin (hi, avocado oil and shea butter). The Multi-Stick has earned a stamp of approval from the pros, too—makeup artist Tobi Henney used it on Megan Fox while she filmed Till Death, noting that Megan’s glow lasted a good 10 to 12 hours on set.

FYI: During testing, we noticed that the Multi-Stick is best applied with a brush, since the formula is on the thicker side. (Check out our favorite brushes from this year’s Best of Beauty Awards here.)

    Frequently Asked Questions

Who are blush sticks best for?

Blush sticks are perfect for the "no-makeup-makeup" crowd—they’re great for natural-looking radiance without looking too cakey or obvious, like powder sometimes does. Compared to powder blushes, "blush sticks work with the natural oils of your skin, instead of sitting on top of it," explains New York-based makeup artist Nam Vo. Bhatty loves their dewy finish, as they "really lend themselves to creating a glowy complexion and truly look like skin," she says, describing them as “the perfect summertime product.”

Pro tip: "Blush sticks are multi-use products, so you can also tap them onto your lids and lips for a monochromatic flushed look," Bhatty adds.

How do you apply stick blush?

You can use a makeup brush or Beautyblender, but your fingers will work just as well, especially when you're on the go. "I like to apply the product with my fingertips and then blend out and upward with a cream blush brush toward the hairline for perfectly dewy cheeks every time," Bhatty says. For a more intense pop of color, you can use a blush stick first, then layer powder blush on top.

For our review of the best blush sticks, we enlisted the help of multiple editors, writers, contributors, and makeup artists to review the products. This ensures our testing base spans different skin tones, genders, and dermatological conditions. We considered each product's performance across four primary categories: ingredients, wear and longevity, packaging, and inclusivity.

The best cream blushes are your cheat code for a fresh, healthy-looking glow in an instant—just dab, blend, and go. Unlike most powders, these buttery cheek tints add a radiant sheen to skin that mimics the effects of an hour-long jog on the beach or a luxurious facial. On top of their dewy finishes, cream blushes tend to be more buildable (read: forgiving) than powder or liquid variations—so, if you suffer from blush blindness, a cream-based option is your key to a more natural effect. “A Nars Multiple is one of the first beauty products I ever bought back when I invented being a Sephora teen in 2010. It cost at least a few evenings of babysitting and I was so excited about it I kept the box for months—I'm not kidding. The recent reformulation is everything a nostalgic shopper like me could want. It's the same buttery texture I remember, but now it's even more blendable, silkier, and glowier. I'm not sure how it manages to be the perfect texture and shade for both lips and cheeks, but the cosmetic chemists at Nars cooked up something truly special here.” —Sarah Hoffmann, commerce producer

"I'm pretty heavy-handed with my blush (not necessarily a bad thing) but I appreciate how truly buildable this Chanel formula is. Despite how intense the color looks in the pan, it applies sheerer than one'd expect (even with a relatively dense brush), so I can build it up to my desired level and not risk looking more sunburnt than sun-kissed. It's also sheerer in comparison to other cream blushes but you can still go brush-less and pick up pigment by swirling your fingers into it. True to its name, it leaves behind a powdery, weightless veil. It's not the most long-lasting on its own, so I'd wouldn't skip primer when using this." —Sarah Han, commerce editor

Just like its predecessor, this formula applies like a creamy balm and dries down to a powder-like matte texture, allowing for a more natural-looking flush. (We found that it works best applied with a brush instead of your fingertips, however, since it dries down pretty quickly.) The seven shades also deserve a shoutout for their vibrant pigments, which can be blended out for subtlety or layered for a more dramatic effect.

"I was wowed at the amount of pigment I got from just a few taps in the blush pan and how it played with my foundation and concealer to create a seamless blend. Also, as pigmented as the blush is, it's not overwhelming. You can build it up for a bold flush of color or just add a subtle tinge of rosiness to the cheeks, which is what I like to do. Sometimes I’ll apply it as a finishing touch to reinforce my initial cream blush. Other times I’ll use it as my sole blush, applying it once after concealer as a cream blush then again when my face is near complete as a powder blush."—Annie Blay-Tettey, associate beauty editor

Why it's worth it: If there's one blush that's taken over just about every Allure editor's cheeks, it's the TikTok-viral Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk Matte Beauty Blush Wand. Unlike many of the ultra-dewy blushes on the market, this one has a mattifying finish and a formula that's spiked with radiance-boosting silica spheres for a skin-like effect.

Tilbury told us that you should apply it to the tops of your cheekbones to lift the face. "Never start too low," she said. “It pulls your cheeks down.” During testing, we were struck by how much punch this formula packs in just one tap. The cushion-tip applicator is a standout—it delivers the perfect dose of pigment exactly where you want it, so there’s no guesswork. "It is so rare for me to hit the pan for a blush, but I SCRAPE the beautiful bits of this blush when I get down to the end. I use this for everything and everywhere—of course as a subtle flush or wow-worthy pop of color on the cheeks, over the nose for a cute sunkissed look, and on the eyes for some pigment. One thing that may be underrated for this blush is that it is so, so great on the lips as well. I use a liner and the blush, and I'm set; it's multipurpose in the best way. I have eczema-laden skin, and it hasn't flared up over many months of use, it also doesn't accentuate any dry spots, and instead leaves the skin with a healthy, bouncy-looking finish.

This formula melts into the fingers and onto the skin, so you don't need to tug to get it to blend. It's simultaneously buildable and forgivable if you add too much. The shade range is great (Terracotta is my all-time favorite for my medium skin), and while you can use your fingers, I highly recommend the corresponding dual-ended brush—it is so versatile and even blends skin tint foundations like a dream." —Shanna Shipin, shopping director

    Frequently Asked Questions

Is cream blush better than powder blush?

It's up to you, as cream and powder blush formulas both have their time and place. That said, cream blushes usually contain conditioning oils, making them more moisturizing than their powdery counterparts (take note, dry skin types). They also won't highlight textured areas of the skin or crease in wrinkles like powder blushes can, making them great for mature skin types. While liquid blushes provide similar effects, creams are more buildable, with sheer-to-medium coverage that isn’t as dramatically pigmented as liquids often are.

How should I apply cream blush?

First, finding a complementary shade to your skin tone is key for a natural-looking finish. As a rule of thumb, Los Angeles-based makeup artist Carissa Ferreri previously told Allure that she recommends using a cream blush (or gel) formula in rosy tones. Once you find your shade, it's time to dab it on. "Focus the blush a bit higher on the cheeks, like right under the eyes, and then diffuse any harsh lines," she explained. Joseph Carrillo, a makeup artist based in New York City, also suggests "smiling and applying the color in the center of the apples" before gently fading the edges.

While some come in stick form and others in pots, it's the same deal: Simply apply straight from the bullet and blend the product out with your fingers, a beauty sponge, or a stippling blush brush for more precision. Whatever you do, it's hard to mess up, especially considering most cream blushes are on the sheerer (but buildable) side. If you've gone overboard with the intensity, you can always use your brush or sponge to diffuse the color.

After all, can we really say a skin-care product is the "best" for people over 50 if the only testers we've solicited opinions from folks who have yet to hit 30? Can we honestly deem a high-end diffuser worthy of your hard-earned cash if it’s never been tested on curls? We're proud that our staff spans a wide range of ages, skin tones, hair textures, genders, and backgrounds, which means that we can fairly assess any beauty product that comes into the beauty closet.

Why it's worth it: The 2024 Best of Beauty-winning Kulfi Beauty Underlined Kajal Eyeliner draws inspiration from kajal—a buttery, richly pigmented eyeliner traditionally cooked up with natural ingredients in kitchens across South Asian households and worn for centuries to ward off the evil eye. Kulfi brings the practice into the present day with this smudge-proof color that glides skillfully onto lids and waterlines. You get a solid 20 seconds of easy-blending playtime before it sets firmly in place. Makeup artist Amrita Mehta is among its many fans, giving kudos to the vibrant shades ideal for tightlining or "smudging out into an all-over color or smoky eye look."

"Just a few quick strokes are all I need to define my eyes with Kulfi's pigmented eyeliner. A quick tip: For a longer-lasting, budge-proof look, I wipe my waterline with a Q-tip, then swipe on this liner, and finally use a black eye shadow powder as a tinted setting powder of sorts. It never fails to keep smudging at bay."—Jennifer Hussein, former commerce writer

Why it’s worth it: We love kohl for its smudgy softness and liquid liner for its precision, and Smashbox’s Always Sharp Kohl Eyeliner delivers both in one sleek pencil. It’s creamy enough to smudge and smoke out, with a tip that never goes blunt. The genius? It self-sharpens every time you twist the cap (goodbye, grimy sharpeners at the bottom of your bag). The pigment is bold across the board—though we have a soft spot for the rich violet shade—and once you blend this waterproof formula into place, it locks in tight without budging or flaking.

“It's all in the cap. Every time you open this eyeliner, the cap sharpens the tip automatically (my jaw dropped the first time I tried it). All of the shavings and residue stay in the cap—it's a totally mess-free experience that doesn't require me to dig my sharpener out and stand over a trash can. It's also super-easy to apply and doesn't pull on my eyelids (ouch!). The color payoff is dark and stays put for hours, even on my oily eyelids. I'm in love with Sumatra, a black-brown that makes my green eyes pop.” —Sarah Felbin, senior commerce editor

Why it's worth it: Chanel is synonymous with luxury, and Chanel's Le Liner de Chanel Liquid Eyeliner is synonymous with: "Oh my god, your eyeliner looks amazing." The water-resistant formula is latex-based for a firm grip, ensuring that deep, saturated pigment stays put and stays pretty. You can get super precise with your lines, thanks to a tapered tip that narrows to a thumbtack-level point. Of course, this liner comes in a classic, rich black, but we especially love the uniquely dark oxblood shade—Rouge Noir (a.k.a. "Red Black"). Wear it on a bare lid with a bit of mascara, or layer it with a smokey eye for a sultry nighttime vibe.

"My days of thick, forgiving winged eyeliner are long behind me, so I'm all about precision and control with my eyeliner formulas these days. Chanel's Le Liner de Chanel has a fine tip applicator that's quite stiff compared to others I've tried, which I find to be ideal for keeping my lines tight and clean. The formula is definitely a liquid but not so loose that it's runny and stressful—I love dragging my fingertip along the outer wing to slightly soften the tip—and this eyeliner has just enough viscosity that I can safely manipulate the wing with my fingers without fear that I'm going to end up with inky fingerprints all over my face. You can do a lot with this eyeliner which really helps justify the price tag, IMO."—Sarah Hoffmann, commerce producer

“It took less than 15-minutes with Mario Dedivanovic to convince me to start wearing eyeliner again. After forgoing the product for years since it took too much time and gave me anxiety to get my lines even, I picked up the Master Pigment Pro liner and it's been a match made in eyeliner heaven. Plus, the pencil is ideal for beginners as the dual-tip pencil comes with a brush to smooth out any rough spots.

I start by tightlining my upper waterline and using a q-tip to clean up an excess on my lower line. Then I slowly begin lining my upper lid from the outer corner and working my way to mid-lash. Using the brush, I smooth out my inevitable bumps and continue to layer and blend until I have the color I'm happy with. Once I've finished with a strong coat, I apply my shadow and then go back in with the eyeliner once I've finished to beef up the color and definition. In under 10 minutes, I have defined eyes and carry on with my base products.”—Kassidy Silva, social media director

Why it's worth it: We'll say it with our chests: The gel liner pot-and-brush combo is hugely underrated. Sure, dipping a petite paintbrush into a pot of pigment and wielding it steadily across your lid can seem intimidating, but we promise it's easier (and way more satisfying) than many of its peers. Take the Jones Road Gel Liner, for example. This creamy, richly pigmented, and water-resistant formula is a primo pick for your upper lid, creating crisp, transfer-proof lines wherever you sweep the angled brush. Turn the brush flat-side-down for thick, bold strokes, or use the slender tip for peak precision. Just make sure to screw the cap back on super tightly when you're done—otherwise, it'll dry out and become basically unusable.

It's flat, saturated with pigment, and encircled by a felt outer that you can rotate to create super-graphic, calligraphic sweeps of black. Or, if you press it flat against your lid, it becomes a geometric stamp for tiny, Twiggy-esque lines beneath your bottom lashes. The formula is in it for the long haul, reliably non-smeary and flake-free. Just give the pen a shake before use and store it cap-side-down so the pigment doesn't dry out.

Why we love it: When it comes to budget-friendly liners, Nyx’s Epic Ink Liner (a 2024 Best of Beauty winner) is our no-brainer pick. Makeup artist Christian Briceno previously told Allure that this liner is bold, smooth, and it actually stays put (we’re talkin’ up to six hours!). The brush tip is precise enough for razor-thin flicks but flexible enough to wing out something dramatic. During testing, we found that it may need a quick touch-up after several hours due to some light flaking, but the formula layers easily without getting clumpy, and the fix takes just seconds. Our editors keep the classic jet black in constant rotation, but the electric blue and peachy pink shades are just as tempting—and at this price, why not grab more than one?

    Frequently Asked Questions

How should I choose an eyeliner?

Choosing the right eyeliner is all about knowing your preferences and considering what role you want it to play in your makeup routine. "I love gel eyeliners because they give you a level of both control and precision that you don't get from liquid liners or traditional pencils," says makeup artist Kasey Spickard. Meanwhile, London-based makeup artist Vincent Ford leans toward waterproof formulas, praising their precision and smudgeless staying power throughout the day. As for liquid liners, Florida-based makeup artist Allison Kaye is partial to inky, felt-tip liners, which she says are "great for delivering consistently opaque pigment with every stroke."

As you weigh your options, look closely at each product's claims. If you live in a humid climate, make sure it says "waterproof" or "water-resistant" on the package. And if your eyes tend to get irritated easily, opt for ophthalmologist-tested formulas. And so on. Finding your go-to liner might involve a little trial and error, but honestly, we think that's half the fun.

    How should I apply eyeliner?

At the end of the day, you should apply your eyeliner however you want to, but if you're after a bit more of a professional approach, there are some guidelines to keep in mind. If you're using an eyeliner pencil, Houston-based makeup artist Rose Siard says: "As soon as you draw your line, start smudging. I work one eye at a time, so I have more blending time." If you're using liquid eyeliner, it's a whole other beautiful beast. We have an entire course on cat-eyes, but if you're after specifics based on your eye shape, here's the handy guide from our waterproof eyeliner roundup, according to Lavonne Wood, a bi-coastal makeup artist:

    Round eyes

If your irises are completely visible when your eyes are open and resting naturally, then you likely have round eyes. "Start from the outside, drawing at a downward angle toward the eye's outer corner," she advises. for this eye shape. “Apply the liner inwards, stopping at the center of your lid where your pupil is when you're looking straight ahead.”

    Monolids

Monolids are characterized by minimal eye creases or the lack of an eye crease. Creating the thinnest line possible is best for this shape, Wood says. “Place the tip of the eyeliner on the lash line at the pupil and draw to the outer corner. Then, start from the inner corner and draw it to meet the middle point.”

    Almond eyes

If your eyes are more ovular than circular and have sharp outer and inner corners, you've got almond-shaped eyes. Wood recommends that you take advantage of your extra lid space. “Draw your eyeliner from the inner corner all the way across the lash line, then flick it out, stopping at the point where your crease starts.”

    Hooded eyes

Do your creases seem to disappear when you open your eyes? That means you've got hooded eyes. "To make sure the liner doesn't disappear under your lid, create the outer wing flick where your eyelid hood starts," Wood advises. "Work your way inward, applying your liner in thin strokes."

How we test and review products

Before reviewing any makeup, we ask questions about a number of factors: What ingredients are in it? Does the brand offer a wide, inclusive shade range with all skin tones and undertones? Is it safe for readers who have sensitive skin or wear contact lenses? Is it on the affordable side or more of a splurge? Is the packaging consciously designed or needlessly wasteful?

For our review of the best eyeliners, we enlisted the help of multiple editors, writers, contributors, and makeup artists. This ensures our testing base spans different skin tones, genders, and dermatological conditions. We considered each product's performance across four primary categories: ingredients, wear and longevity, packaging, and inclusivity. For more on what's involved in our reporting, check out our complete review process and methodology page.

    Our staff and testers

A beauty product is a personal purchase. You might be searching for a face cream to address persistent dryness, a new nail product to add to your Sunday self-care routine, or you may simply be browsing around for the latest launches to hit the hair market. No matter what you seek or your individual needs and concerns, Allure wants to ensure that you love anything we recommend in our stories. We believe that having a diverse team of writers and editors—in addition to the wide range of outside testers and industry experts we regularly call upon—is essential to reaching that goal.

After all, can we really say a skin-care product is the "best" for people over 50 if the only testers we've solicited opinions from are folks who have yet to hit 30? Can we honestly deem a high-end diffuser worthy of your hard-earned cash if it's never been tested on curls? We're proud that our staff spans a wide range of ages, skin tones, hair textures, genders, and backgrounds, which means that we are able to fairly assess any beauty product that comes into the beauty closet.

Last night, Snooki showed up on my TikTok For You page. Today, Zendaya seemingly wore a Bumpit—the very hair-heightening apparatus made famous by the Jersey Shore star—to the Louis Vuitton Womenswear Spring/Summer 2026 show. Coincidence?

    Probably.

But it speaks volumes—no pun intended—about how a bouffant defies the parameters of style and time, refusing to be kept down. (OK, the pun was intended that time.)

Zendaya arrived for her front-row seat at the September 30 show in a metallic foil mini dress with fur trim, its retro vibes only amplified by her hairstyle: what stylist Ursula Stephen calls a '60s-meets-'90s bouffant. The smooth look features a ton of oomph at the back of the head, while the front is framed in a swoopy, super-deep side part.

And as much as I really want to believe there's a Bumpit in there, Stephen knows exactly how to achieve this glam shape without any inserts. She applied a combination of Milk Shake Insta.Light Potion and Incredible Milk leave-in treatment to Zendaya's damp hair to add shine before blow-drying with a round brush, setting each section in a velcro roller. Once the hair was set, she teased the hair at the crown and finished with Milk Shake's Lifestyling Flexible Hold Hairspray.

The rest of her stunning beauty look included soft, rosy-brown makeup tones and the simplest of manicures: a sheer, creamy color on short nails.

If you still need a hidden accessory to help hoist your hair, there's no shame in that—and there's no shortage of options, like plastic arches and sponge combs. All that matters is that you set your goals and your hair high.
